Academic Parent-Teacher Teams (APTT)

Academic Parent-Teacher Teams (APTT) is a family engagement model that strengthens teacher-family relationships by focusing on student academic growth and achievement.  The APTT Model raises the efforts of traditional parent-teacher conferences by inviting all families of the same classroom teacher to meet together rather than individually.

  • Muffins with Mom to Pastries with Parents November 7-11, 2016
  • Pastries with Parents Morning Science February 13-16, 2017
  • Bring a Guest Math Luncheon April 24-27, 2017

 

These activities were created in response to parent requests for more opportunities to visit the classroom. Students are to invite a guest to bring their lunch (for luncheons), eat, and participate in the classroom. Times for lunches and morning visits vary by grade-level, please check the school calendar for up-to-date information.

 

Parent Involvement Workshop: Navigating Odyssey- Curriculum & Assessments

9/22/16 at 9am and 6pm

The Navigating Odyssey workshops are a series of Title I Parental Involvement workshops which will build the capacity of parents to understand and navigate topics. This workshop will discuss the curriculum Odyssey uses, such as Georgia Performance Standards of Excellence (GPSE), and the curriculum they use to teach the GPSE, such as Journeys, Go Math/Big Ideas and STEM Scopes. It will also cover progress monitoring and benchmark testing, explains what benchmark goals are, and the assessments used for both (GRASP & MAP).

Parent Involvement Workshop: Navigating Odyssey- Accessing Powerschool & Other Online Accounts

10/4/16 at 9am and 6pm

The Navigating Odyssey workshops are a series of Title I Parental Involvement workshops which will build the capacity of parents to understand and navigate topics. This workshop will discuss the Powerschool parent portal that Odyssey uses, and other online accounts which will aid parents working with and monitoring their students at home. There will also be assistance provided to log into accounts at the workshop, as needed.

Parent Involvement Workshop: Navigating Odyssey- CCRPI & Career Education

1/24/17 at 9am and 6pm

The Navigating Odyssey workshops are a series of Title I Parental Involvement workshops which will build the capacity of parents to understand and navigate topics. This workshop will discuss the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) which will aid parents in understanding school requirements and performance, and also the state’s career education program, Georgia Career Information System (GCIS) which will aid parents in understanding the career pathways and planning that their students will be participating in during the spring semester.

 

 

Parent Involvement: Community Outreach: Kindergarten Transition

1/26/17 at 5pm

The Community Outreach events are a series of Title I Parental Involvement events which partners Odyssey with service providers and professionals, such as local Bright from the Start providers and local High School Counselors, to support the transition of Title I students and families into Odyssey for Kindergarten or out of Odyssey into High School. The Kindergarten Open House will allow parents to receive information to help prepare their pre-Kindergarten students for Kindergarten, allow them to sign up for free books from Get Georgia Reading’s campaign, receive helpful materials on transition and experience an Odyssey Kindergarten activity.

 

 

Parent Involvement: Community Outreach: High School Transition

2/9/17 at 5pm

The Community Outreach events are a series of Title I Parental Involvement events which partners Odyssey with service providers and professionals, such as local Bright from the Start providers and local high school counselors, to support the transition of Title I students and families into Odyssey for Kindergarten or out of Odyssey into High School. The High School Transition Open House will allow parents to receive information to help prepare their 8th grade students for High School, allow them to have a panel discussion with counselors from East Coweta High School, Northgate High School, and Newnan High School, and to receive helpful materials on the transition and transition process.

Parent Involvement Workshop: Navigating Odyssey- The Georgia Milestones Assessment

3/28/17 at 6pm & 3/30/17 at 9am

The Navigating Odyssey workshops are a series of Title I Parental Involvement workshops which will build the capacity of parents to understand and navigate topics. This workshop will discuss the The Georgia Milestones Assessment which will aid parents in understanding school and state requirements and performance on this state assessment, the methods of testing (online or paper), and how to prepare their student for testing and how to support them during testing.

 

 

P.R.I.D.E. School Improvement Meetings

The P.R.I.D.E. acronym represents the process Odyssey uses for school improvement planning, which is an ongoing process including the following steps: Plan, Review, Implement, Determine Effectiveness, and Examine Results. During these meetings stakeholders will be able to provide input on federal programs and school programs. The CLIP, Parent Involvement Policies, Parent Involvement 1% budget, and Schoolwide Plan are taken through the P.R.I.D.E. process in order to be updated for the following academic year.

Our Parent Resource Center is coming along quickly! The parents that attended the Milestones Parent Session got a sneak peek and they were excited! We hope to have a grand opening date soon!  There are brochures and other resources already available in the hall outside the Parent Resource Center and our Parent Involvement Coordinator, Jennifer Priser is always available via email PIC@odysseyharterschool.net

 

 

Every year the state of Georgia recognizes the month of November as Parent Engagement Month, and schools across the state highlight the role parents play in a student’s education.

Check out the calendar which has ideas to engage your elementary or middle grades student. It has one idea for every day in November!
