Since 2004, Odyssey Charter School has been serving the students of Coweta County and Meriwether County as a tuition-free, public, state-chartered school. Our charter is authorized through the State Charter School Commission (SCSC). With about 400 students in grades K-8, we are a small community school with a family atmosphere. Our student-centered learning environment offers smaller class sizes and a certified teacher AND a paraprofessional in every K-5 classroom. We are accredited by AdvancED and the Georgia Department of Education.
Odyssey’s academic program is based on constructivism, hands-on, project-based learning, thematic units and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We are known for focusing on the academic needs of each individual student. We have an excellent Gifted program, with two Gifted-certified teachers that focus exclusively on this program plus Gifted-certified teachers in almost every grade level. We also have exemplary Early Intervention Program (EIP), Response to Intervention (RTI) and Special Education programs that further allow us to meet the needs of students on every level. We have a proven track record of success.
Odyssey classrooms are equipped with the latest in technological advancements including interactive white boards, interactive response systems, and document cameras. More importantly, beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, students in all grade levels are issued their own Chromebook to use throughout the school year, thus enabling them to gain experience with the technology that touches every part of their daily lives. We have a fully-equipped science lab and a technology lab complete with a 3D printer. We also offer a middle school Engineering Technology class which provides a wonderful introduction into the engineering design process.
Odyssey students of all grade levels have the opportunity to go on educational field trips in the Atlanta area and older students get to experience overnight field trips to places like Washington, DC, Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA, and Cape Canaveral, FL. The ability to experience history, science or technology in person truly provides a unique educational opportunity for Odyssey students.
Odyssey’s campus also provides a fully functioning library, outdoor areas, and a Band/Music Room. Students enjoy Art, Spanish and Physical Education on a daily or weekly basis, depending on grade level. Middle School students can select from additional Enrichment classes including Guitar, Drama, Journalism, Broadcasting, Advanced Art, Sports and Robotics. Our Athletic Department offers interscholastic athletics beginning in 5th grade, with the exception of track, which students can begin in 3rd grade.
In addition to strong academics, we are proud to be active in our community by providing opportunities for community involvement and growth of character. We have a school-wide character education program in which every student and staff member participates. Our students and their families have the opportunity to support various local organizations through scheduled drives for organizations like the Newnan Coweta Community Food Pantry and the Newnan Coweta Humane Society. Odyssey parents are very involved and committed to the school and our PTO organizes some of the best family events in town!
One of the advantages of Odyssey Charter School is that we are a K-8 school. That means that children can start in Kindergarten and stay at Odyssey all the way through 8th grade which truly helps to relieve some of the typical middle school stress. Also, families with children in both elementary and middle school find their lives to be less hectic because both children attend the same school.
We are conveniently located near I-85 and Ashley Park. Bus transportation is available and we also offer before and after school care for all K-8 students. We have a full-time school nurse and a full-time school counselor.
We recognize that selecting the best school for your child can be one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent. As you consider your options, please feel free to browse through our website to gain knowledge about our academic programs, our athletics and arts programs, our faculty, Governing Board and PTO. Be sure to visit the School Life, news and calendar pages to understand more about the day to day atmosphere of our school. Please feel free to contact the school with any questions you may have. We look forward to welcoming you to our Odyssey family!
