Athletics General Information

Odyssey Athletics

The Odyssey Athletic Program provides an opportunity for students to learn foundational skills as well as improve upon fundamental proficiency from experienced and caring coaches. An overall goal of the program is for students to experience increased physical health and overall character development. We encourage fair and healthy play and respect for fellow athletes and the game. Our coaches work to instill determination, good sportsmanship, leadership development and teamwork while keeping sports fun.

What We Offer and Who Can Play

We offer boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball, and boys and girls basketball. Students may participate in interscholastic athletics beginning in 5th grade, with the exception of track, where they can begin in 3rd grade.

There are currently no tryouts for our athletic teams.  In the case of some sports with large rosters, coaches try to schedule “B” games when possible in order to provide more playing time for younger and/or less experienced players.

Requirements

Participating students MUST provide a current copy of a Sports Physical Form from their physician before practice begins. We ask that this form is provided in August of every school year, regardless of the time of year when the sport is in session. This helps us ensure that all students are ready and able to play when their sport season begins.

There is an athletic fee for all sports. The athletic fee typically includes the uniform, with some exceptions that are spelled out in the information for the given sport. This fee can be waived if parents participate in our Atlanta Falcons volunteer opportunity. Please contact our Athletic Director, Nsa Austin, for more information.

Athletes must maintain good grades and good behavior in order to participate. If an athlete misses school on the day of a game, they will not be able to play in that game, unless they have an acceptable reason for having missed school (i.e. doctor’s appt). If a student misses an excessive number of practices, they may not be able to play in the upcoming game or games. This is left to the discretion of the coach for that particular sport.

Athletes must be picked up within 20 minutes of the end of practice.  If the team is practicing at the school and parents arrive late to pick them up, the student will be sent to After School and parents will be charged the normal after school rate.  If the team is practicing off-campus and parents arrive late to pick their student up, there will be a higher rate charged. In addition, if the team is practicing off-campus, consistent failure to pick up the player on time could result in their dismissal from the team.

More information about these requirements can be found in the Odyssey Athletic Team Rules below.
