April Smith teaches ELA and Reading for grades 7 and 8, and she joined the Odyssey Charter School family in 2015. Graduating cum laude in 2007 from Clayton State University, with a BA in Middle Level Education, April is certified in the areas of Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies. April has been teaching since 2007, and, in addition to her time teaching in her content areas, she spent several years teaching piano at Musicology in Newnan.
The greatest inspiration for April in becoming a teacher was her fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Owens. Mrs. Owens was a teacher who knew how to show compassion, while instilling the importance of independence in learning. In addition, she encouraged and taught April the joy of writing.
In her free time, April loves to spend time with her husband, Bryan, and her two children, Chloe (14) and Jacob (3). As a family, they love to go camping, hiking, swimming, or anything else that involves the outdoors. They have three canine children, Atlas (beagle), Lulu (beagle), and Poseidon (husky). When she has a moment to herself, April will read just about book she can find, but her favorite genres are literary and historical fiction
The letter that best describes Mrs. Smith is “O”: she is outgoing,optimistic,open-minded, and open hearted.
On the top of her bucket list of places to visit, April wants to go to Italy.
