English for Speakers of Other Languages – ESOL

The English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program is available for all English Learners who meet the eligibility criteria. The ESOL Program assists in the English Learners’ success in an English-speaking classroom.

Our goal at Odyssey Charter School is the success of the ESOL students in the regular classroom while providing instruction to ensure language development in the four language domains of language acquisition (speaking, listening, reading and writing) both academically and socially.

Odyssey Charter School provides language assistance tailored to the scholars’ individual English language development needs through a variety of research-based models. These services may include direct instruction and support from the ESOL teacher in the regular classroom, instruction through a separate classroom taught by an ESOL teacher, or a combination of both methods. Additionally, the ESOL program introduces ELs to important cultural concepts needed both for success in school and civic engagement while encouraging them to value their first language.

The success of the ESOL scholars at Odyssey Charter School is shared by the ESOL teacher and the regular classroom teachers who collaborate to determine instructional accommodations needed to make language and content as comprehensible as possible.

The ESOL teacher holds the proper ESOL endorsements from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
